Saturday library sketches and Sushi...

Had a wonderful Saturday this weekend... I sketched at the library - only to discover that not too many people crossed my way - so I wasn't able to find models at all... the 2-3 who came, thankfully stood long enough for me to be able to sketch them - with my double triple lines (somehow I have this compulsion of drawing and redrawing the same line, instead of a quick single stroke...)

We went to a Sushi bar for a finale of the day.. I couldn't journal about it, though I wanted to mention that the chef was an absolute wonderful performer... I am waiting for the days when Tanush would give me more freedom to be able to pull out my sketchbook at occasions such as these (though the poor guy is quite generous with what he does allow..)

Great sketches.

What a shame people don't use libraries very much any more.

I like the lady with the handbag, I wonder what she's thinking!

Great sketches. I never thought of sketching people at the public library, though I remember sketching some trees from the third floor library windows when I was at college! I should definitely try this. I think I would try someone slumped in a chair with a good book though! Try a figure drawing class if there is one available near you. They usually do warm up exercises for 15 minutes before any long poses. The model only holds still for 60 seconds for the first poses so you are forces to draw really FAST!

I don't always think redrawing a line is a bad thing. It can add energy to the drawing and lend a sense of movement. Unless of course they become too out of place! I single, confident line drawing can look great, but if you're not careful, it can also look lifeless. I think you've done a great job with these sketches! I rarely draw without re-stating a line, but I like it. (I'm talking about restating an entire line, not chicken scratching my way to make a line!) Even da Vinci restated lines here and there!

I'm with Raena, re-stating lines is fine. I do know some who can draw beautiful lines first time around. But, I'm not one of those people either. I think Cezanne was another who re-stated lines.

Did you find people moved quite a bit? Good for you to get out there and draw on location! Wonderful!

You sketch like I do. It's the way I've always sketched; messy. I love these sketches. You caught expressions in the faces and the body of the woman looks very relaxed.

Thanks everybody...
It's nice to know that my technique (well, better to say, the way I draw) is not really a bad one.. The people were moving - but I do that even with the leaves that are pretty much stationary...
Sometimes I love it, sometimes I feel 'Oh no! They went away! I should have been quicker!'
@Cathy - LOL, tell you frankly, she definitely had a book in mind, but she couldn't find it, she walked the same aisle a couple of times, and went back to search for it in the online catalog
